Each Year Tibet Sees Lots of Weirdos and This Year is No Surprise!
Latest Update: June,10 2023
Took a group photo at Tashilunpo Monastery when travel to Tibet
Every year sees more and more visitors coming to Tibet. While some take flights to Lhasa Airport, and others take the train along the Qingzang Railway, there are millions of brave travelers who take the toughest route of all – the Sichuan-Tibet Highway.
And they come in all kinds of shapes and sizes, and on all manner of vehicles. Some ride bikes, others cycle the entire distance, and a very rare few drive the highway in a sports car. But there are others who are even weirder, and arrive in Tibet pushing tires. Like the saying goes, “It takes all sorts to make a world.”
Nobody ever expected to see Sun Wukong riding a bicycle to Tibet, but here he is, large as life. Cosplay is a huge thing in Asia, and seeing someone dressed as the Monkey King from the 16th century Chinese novel, Journey to the West, goes down a treat with locals and tourists alike.

Tourists and locals love to get their photo taken with cosplay characters. And the journey to Tibet sees many of them throughout the year.
Lucky to see Sun Wukong riding along the Sichuan-Tibet Highway
Driving a Lamborghini along the Sichuan-Tibet Highway
Driving along the Sichuan-Tibet Highway is a challenge for any driver and vehicle. While the route has some amazing scenery, which changes with the altitude onto the plateau, it is well known for its bad road surfaces and sharp, hairpin bends as the road winds up and down mountains.
Drive Lamborghini to Tibet
At 4,114 meters above sea level, Mengbi Mountain lies just 30km from the town of Barkam, in northern Sichuan Province. The perfect place to selfie your bright red Lamborghini.

The Potala Palace makes the perfect backdrop for a photograph of such a beautiful car. The bright red offsets well against the darker red of the Red Palace behind.

Most people would prefer a good, solid 4x4 or off-road vehicle when faced with some of the single-track sections of the highway. Only crazy people take on that challenge in one of the world’s most expensive sports cars!
Ride a Bike-sharing to Tibet
Bike Sharing is a popular thing in China, with new startup companies opening up to profit from this new boom industry. China was literally flooded with bikes in 2016, after dozens of major bike-share companies opened for business. The bikes can now be found almost everywhere, often in piles on street corners!
Ride a bike-sharing to Tibet
It takes a very fit person to cycle to Tibet along the Sichuan-Tibet Highway. But the views would be worth it, since they would get a better view of all the sights at their slower pace than in a car. And it is easy to stop for a snack or a drink by a little roadside creek.
The nice, smooth sections of tarmac road make for easy riding when bike-sharing your way to Tibet. Wonder how he copes with the mountains and rough stretches…
Rolling Tires to Tibet
Why anyone would want to push a huge truck tire from China to Tibet is anyone’s guess. But it happens, as do many other weird and wonderful things just like it. Did anyone call the Guinness Book of Records…?
Pushing the huge truck tire up the gravel-paved hill is ‘tire’-ing to say the least. It makes you wonder if they take it in turns to push and guide the tire.
Finally, they made it to the regional border between China and Tibet. A big smile and a thumbs-up says it all!
Snapshots in Tibet
Everyone loves to take photos when they are in Tibet. And they take photos of just about everything. And there is so much to photograph in Tibet. With the snow-capped mountains and the beautiful monasteries, taking pictures is one way to relive those memories a little clearer in the years to come.
Asking directions to Mt. Everest from a local official. It is so easy to get lost, and that mountain is very hard to find…
Mt. Everest as the background
With Mt. Everest in the background, they have definite proof that they were at the world’s highest mountain. They even have the guide to authenticate that they were in Tibet, not a studio…
Is it Tibetan graffiti, or local artworks? Even the wall decors can be mysterious in Tibet.
Shooting the ornate roofs…
As the sun begins to set, getting a photo of the beautiful, ornate roofs makes for the perfect shot. And getting a photo of the person taking the photo of the sunset on the beautiful, ornate roofs is just as important.
Photo with prayer wheels
Prayer wheels abound in Tibet, in the monasteries and temples, and wherever there is any kind of religious site. It is a great idea for a photo, with the stupa in the background.
Photo with sheep or yak ?
Always get a group photo with the rest of your tour party. Just try and leave out the creature next time… Is that a sheep, or a miniature yak?
