Latest Update: June,19 2023
Oct is one of the best times to visit Mt. Everest in Everest Base Camp (5200m) in Tibet. Shortly after you finish visiting the most celebrated Tibetan monasteries like Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, and get acclimatized to high altitude, then you can move southwest to Shigatse City via spectacular Yamdrok Lake and historic Gyantse County. As you enter Mt. Everest National Nature Reserve in Tingri, the jaw-dropping mountains along Himalayan Range start to unfold before your eyes. The climax of entire Tibet tour appears when you closely enjoy the incredible close-up view of Mt. Everest in EBC. Let’s travel with our tour group and share their memorable experience in Tibet.
Visit Eastern Courtyard of Potala Palace in Lhasa
As the most iconic place of Tibet, Potala Palace built on the Red Hill is a live museum of Tibetan history and culture. Tourists can explore the residence, prayer rooms and tombs of former Dalai Lamas. You can enjoy the panoramic view of Lhasa city on the rooftop. The new-arrivals of Lhasa shall walk slowly and steadily before reaching the entrance of Red Palace and White Palace of Potala Palace. The best place to photograph Potala Palace is on the Chagpori, to the south of Potala Palace.
Enjoy the Welcome Dinner in Lhasa City
As a common practice, the clients of our join-in group will enjoy a welcome dinner with the guide and other group members. Tourists will be able to taste the traditional Tibetan food and beverage in Lhasa. As you roam over the Lhasa city, esp. around Barkhor Street, many Tibetan tea houses are also worth a visit. Only in these places, can you full experience the true religious and secular life of local Tibetans.
Stop by Gyantse City and Explore the Magnificent Gyantse Dezong
Gyantse County is an important place for sightseeing. The widely known attractions are Palcho Monastery and Kumbum Stupa and Gyantse Dezong (also known as Gyantse Fortress). The stunning Gyantse fortress, built on the ridge of craggy hill, overlooks the Gyantse town like a dragon. During the British invasion of Gyantse in 1904, Tibetans had a heroic resistance against their aggression. Meanwhile, another highlight of Gyantse County is the annual Gyantse Dama Festival. Tourists can enjoy the rarely-seen horsemanship, archery, and other traditional outdoor events and performances.
Gaze at Lofty Mountains along Himalayas at Gawu La Pass(5198m)
Gawu La Pass is one of the best places to enjoy Mt. Everest in Shigatse Prefecture. You can enjoy the top 5 highest mountains on majestic Himalayas, such as Mt. Everest (8844.43m), Cho Oyo8201m), Lhotse (8516m), Makalu(8463m), Shishapangma(8027m),etc. Compared with the scenery on Nepal’s side, tourists can enjoy grander mountain scenery without the obstruction of other neighboring soaring mountains.
Winding Road in Mt. Everest National Nature Reserve
Standing at the mountain pass, the massive Himalayas is exposed completely before your eyes.
Camp in Everest Base Camp
Situated at an altitude of 5200m, Everest Base Camp is the closest place for most tourists to enjoy Mt. Everest. Unlike the south base camp (5364m) in Nepal, where one can only reach it via trekking, in Tibet tourists can choose to trek or take tour bus to reach EBC (5200m). The accommodation is pretty basic, only yak tents are available. However, you may also spend the night in the guesthouse in Rongbuk Monastery (5154m), the highest monastery in the world. The magnificent view of Mt. Everest at sunset and starry night in EBC are something you couldn’t afford to miss.
