Snap Photos before Visiting Potala Palace

For better acclimatization to high altitude in Tibet, normally the day tour including visiting iconic monasteries like Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple, etc. is arranged the day after your arrival. As the landmark of Tibet, Potala Palace used to be the winter palace and residence of Dalai Lamas. There are all together 432 steps to go up to get to the palace. As a rule, once you get inside the palace or the 'no-photo' zone, you have to complete the tour in an hour. The Potala Palace has hundreds of rooms, statues, paintings, and many solid gold burial vessels for the past lamas. The craftsmanship is fantastic. There is a constant flow of pilgrims visiting and they are fascinating to watch. The view from the top of Potala Palaceb is breathtaking and you can see the Lhasa city and surrounding mountains around Lhasa valley. This place should be on everybody's bucket list.

Climb to the Rooftop of Jokhang Temple

Though Potala Palace is the most iconic architecture of Tibet, the spritual heart of Tibet truly lies in Jokhang Temple. The reason is largely because it houses the life-size statue of 12-year-old Shakyamuni, brought by Nepali princess when she came to Tibet to marry Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo and numverou precious Buddhas and legendary stories. The Jokhang Temple is located in the middle of the old town, right on the Barkhor street circuit. You will be deeply moved by intense religious atmpsphere and crowds of fervent pilgrims doing full-body prostration.
