World’s top train trip in 2013– Tibet train tour

If you love train travel, do not miss the world’s top train trip in 2013 – Tibet train tour on the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, the highest railway in the world, running for about 1,242 miles most of which is about 13,000 feet high. The Tibet train is said to be “Rocket to the world roof” by Forbes. Sound exciting?

The train rides through vast and mysterious area of the world of tundra, frozen and not, distant mountain peaks, unspoiled lakes and villages, can ferry up to 4,000 people a day which means this remote area is becoming far less so.

Currently, travelers can start a train trip to Tibet from Chengdu, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Lanzhou and Xining, but the real Tibet train tour starts at Xining which is the starting point of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway.

All the trains to Tibet are pressurized, with oxygen pumped in after Xining, so there might be no distinctive response physically, while you can see the changes of the altitude shown on each cabin. Of course, the scenery outside also changes with the altitude, the blue sky and white clouds, the grasslands with herds, snow-covered mountains, source of Yangtze River, Hohxil Natural Reserve, etc.
