2012 Tour de Qinghai Lake to Feature 13 Stages
The 2012 Tour de Qinghai Lake Cycling Race will feature 13 stages across Qinghai Province, Gansu Province and Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region of northwest China, said organizers on Friday.
Tour de Qinghai Lake, which is held annually, will start on June 29 this season through to July 12 and cover 2,680 kilometers, with the average altitude of the race reaching 2,391 meters above sea level while the maximum altitude at 3,865 meters.
A total of 154 riders from 22 teams have been accepted to take part in the event, which offers a tantalizing prize money of 600,000 U.S. dollars to winners.
The International Cycling Union has approved over 160 multi-day races this year. 13 stages make Tour de Qinghai Lake an exception among the 20 continental races that are required not to have stages over 10.It attracts many people travel to Tibet to visit it.
