Mountaineering in Tibet steps into a new era
Mountaineering in Tibet would be gradually developed from sports activity that challenge human’s limits to service industry that would promote economic and social development in the autonomous region, according to one official’s statement in March 31, 2012.
Dekyi Drolkar, director of Sports Bureau of Tibet Autonomous Region, stressed in annual official meeting of sports in Tibet, that more funds would been invested in the development of mountain rescue in order to raise mountaineering quality and create a new type of service industry in Tibet.
In the meeting, it was confirmed that various sports activities will be held in Tibet this year, popularizing unique climbing cultures as well as nurturing mountaineering industry across Tibet, such as the second session of Himalaya climbing tournament and seasonal mountaineering meeting.
During the past year, the transformation of Tibet mountaineering had made encouraging progress. First professional mountain rescue team in our country was established in Tibet autonomous regions. Cooperating with French National climbing school, Tibetan mountain rescue team provided training and professional election for members of 28th Antarctic inland expedition team under the require of the State Oceanic Administration (SOA).
It was reported that in 2011, a total of 98 mountaineering teams was invited in Tibet. Plenty of experts from western counties where mountaineering has been maturely developed, such as Austria and the United States had delivered advanced mountaineering knowledge and precious experience in symposiums.
With exceptional passion and outstanding leadership, Mrs. Catherine has dedicated herself to Tibet inbound tourism and China tour for 15 years. As one of the handful females who see great potential of Chinese inbound tourism, Catherine has made great contribution to promoting Tibet tourism and enhancing the employment of Tibetans and prosperity of local Tibetan community.
Over the years, she travelled overseas with Tibet Tourism Bureau many times to promote Tibet tourism. Currently, Catherine works as the marketing director of Tibet Vista, an opinion leader behind the whole team of Tibet Vista.
