A national park project will be carried out this year in Tibet, according to information released by Department of Environment Protection of the Tibet Autonomous Region, Xinhua reported.
National parks are usually based on rare and even irreplaceable natural landscape in the whole country or around the world.
Ecological environment, conservation of natural resources and moderate development of tourism are the three pillars guiding construction of national parks.
Setting up national parks is an effective way to balance between environment protection and development of resources, realizing widespread protection via limited exploiting.
National parks are also our national ecological security, said Jiang Bai, head of the Tibet Department of Environment Protection, at an environment protection conference previously.
The project requires strengthening measures to monitor and protect the ecological system, banning appropriation of land and illegal resources tapping.
The pilot program integrating Tibet’s world-class landscape into national parks will bring more reputation to Tibet as a tourist attraction and highlight its core competitiveness.
National parks are neither the same as nature reserves, or similar to common scenic spots. Since Yellowstone National Park, the first of its kind, was set up in 1872 in the United States, national parks have mushroomed all over the world. By now, nearly 10,000 national parks have been set up in more than 200 countries and areas. This project aims at protecting the environmental diversity of Tibet by legislation and promoting sustainable development of Tibet’s tourism industry. The action also calls on tourists to
make responsible travel tours in Tibet.
