Various celebrations have been carried out to celebrate the upcoming Tibetan Serfs Emancipation Day across southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, which falls on March 28.

The Central People's Government, together with the Tibetan people, took decisive measures to suppress the rebellion, carried out the Democratic Reform and abolished the feudal serfdom under theocracy in Tibet, emancipating a million serfs and slaves.
For the first time, the former serfs and slaves were able to enjoy democratic rights as their own masters
On January 19, 2009, Tibet decided to make March 28 as Tibetans Serfs Emancipation Day to celebrate the liberation of Tibet's one million serfs and slaves.
