The Best Time to Travel to Tibet in 2014 Begins

The best time to visit Tibet is from April to October, avoiding the coldest months. “The temperature of most areas in Tibet begins to rise. In Lhasa and Nyingchi, it can reach over 20°C in daytime.” said Mr. Tony Yin, a senior travel consultant of Tibet Travel Org CITS. “We have received bookings from over one thousand foreigners. About five hundred are traveling to Tibet in April and May.”

“Tibet Tourism Bureau is always very busy in processing a large number of applications for Tibet permits in April. If you are traveling to Tibet, it is best to submit your documents as early as possible,” Tony said. “You can follow our guidelines of applying for Tibet Permit.”

In April, peach trees in Nyingchi area, southeastern Tibet, are in full blossom. Travelers will be shocked by the fantastic scenery with clusters of peach blossom in vicinity and snow-capped mountains in the distance. April and May are also the best time to view Mt. Everest, the world’s highest peak. Thanks to the nice weather and clear sky, travelers can enjoy high visibility. It is the best time to climb Everest, too. Travelers may get a chance to take pictures with those brave mountaineers. Moreover, good discounts on accommodation and vehicle rental are available at the beginning of Tibet’s peak tourist season.

From June to August, the weather throughout Tibet becomes mild, averaging above 10°C. Although it is Tibet’s rainy season, it rains mostly at night. It is possible to visit all areas. Travelers can enjoy the most beautiful and fascinating scenery on the roof of the world in a year. They can easily take good pictures of blue skies, turquoise lakes, snow-capped mountains, vast grasslands, flapping prayer flags, etc. It is also a great time to make a Tibetan festival tour to experience local culture and customs. Tibetans celebrate various traditional festivals in these months, like Saga Dawa Festival in June, Tashilhunpo Thangka Festival in July, Shoton Festival and Nagchu Horse Racing Festival in August

From September to October, the temperature is not as mild as that in summer, but still very comfortable. It is the harvest season on the Tibetan Plateau. Travelers can celebrate Ongkor Festival with Tibetan farmers. It is held to pray for a good harvest. The skies are generally clear, so it is a wonderful time to view snow-capped mountains again. It is also considered as the best time to trek in Tibet.

As Tibet is a remote area with harsh environment and high altitude, most goods and materials are transported from Mainland China. The prices are naturally higher. In addition, the local government requires foreigners to do a tour organized by a licensed travel agency. The tour cost may be a little high for individual travelers. Thus, joining in a tour group is the best way to cut down the cost. Rich in market resources, Tibet Travel Org CITS always offers various Tibet tour packages at favorable prices.
