Namjagbarwa Peak

The Namjagbarwa Peak in Nyingchi Prefecture of Tibet Autonomous Region is reputed to be "Paradise in the Clouds".

It is at the eastern end of the Mount Himalayas. With an altitude of 7,782 meters, it ranks the world's 15th highest peak.

Namjagbarwa Peak is full of mystery. It is said that there are celestial beings living on the peak, and they gather and burn aromatic plant for praying. So people awe and worship this famous mountain very much.

There is a well-known legend about Namjagbarwa Peak. Long time ago, the God of Heaven sent 2 brother Namjagbarwa and Gyala Peri to the mortal world.

Gyala Peri, the younger brother, acquires excellent martial art through hard working and grows fast, which makes his brother Namjagbarwa jealous. Finally, Namjagbarwa kills Gyala Peri and deserts his head at Mailing County in Nyingchi Prefecture, and the head turns into Gyala Peri Peak.

This legend well explains the contrary physical characteristics of the two mountains: the Gyala Peri Peak is round, because it is headless. However, the Namjagbarwa Peak is dipped in dense mist for its guilt all around the year.It attracts mant people travel to Tibet.
