Due to the Saga Dawa Festival that will fall on May 25th, 2013, the Mount Kailash Kora becomes a hot Tibet tour in May 2013.
During Saga Dawa Festival, the holiest mount in Aisa, Kailash would witness thousands of visitors and worshipers. The Saga Dawa Festival lasts for the whole fourth month in Tibetan calendar, around May in solar calendar. During this festival, pilgrims from Tibetan areas, India, Nepal and other places would go to visit Kailash and do the Kailash Kora because they believe that good deeds and prayers are multiplied thousand folds during this event.
Tourists and pilgrims would start the Kailash kora at Darchen, a small town near the Kailash. Tourists can find porters to carry their luggage, food and water. Generally, it needs three days to finish the Kailash Kora which is around 53 kilometers around the holy Mt. Kailash, so tourists should prepare enough food and drinking water. Some pilgrims would do the Kailash Kora all the way prostrating, which must take them weeks to complete the kora. Therefore, you may meet some pilgrims asking food from you.
There are some monasteries on the Kailash kora. If you make the Kailash kora during Saga Dawa Festival, you may have a chance to watch religious ceremonies held in the monasteries.
Lake Manasarovar is a very beautiful holy lake near the Kailash. It also sees a lot of visitors during Saga Dawa Festival. Believers bath in the Manasarovar Lake and drink its water are believed to cleanse all sins.
