Kagyu Monastery in Yadong Country, Tibet
People go to Tibet travel are interested in the beautiful scenery and unique culture. Built in 1747, Kagyu Monastery is located in Yadong Country. It is the monastry of the Karma Kagyu sect of Tibetan Buddhism.
The whole monastery is 50 meters long from east to west and 29 meters wide from north to south. There are three meters high adobe walls around the monastery. The front gate is in the south of the west wall. When you enter the front gate you will see a courtyard. Sitting in the north side and facing to the south side, the Buddhist hall is in the northeast of the courtyard, 25 meters long from west to east and 19 meters wide from north to south. The whole structure arrangement looks like an inverted "T".
The Kagyu Monastery has two floors. The higher one is the monk's dormitory. The senior monks and living Buddha live here. The first floor lies corridors, scripture hall, temple and so on. In front of the Buddhist hall there are five stone steps. Two big pillars stand on the corridor. The murals on pillars are repointed in 1985. A period of original one about one meter long is kept on the south wall. There are many historic and culture relics in Kagyu Monastery. Thangka, Tibetan embroidery, the bronze statue of goddess of mercy with four faces and other god statues here are all precious things.
Since it was built in 1747, the development was huge at that time. But now there are only a few monks that made Kagyu Monastery lonely. The Kagyu Monastery is more than ten kilometers away from Sikkim and the Kingdom of Bhutan, so it is welcomed for these local peoples living in the border. Standing on the second floor of a platform behind the main Buddhist building, you can view the Yadong River valley from distance.
