Gesar Castles, the largest castles in Tibet

With a history of over 1,600 years, Gesar Castles, a relic associated with an ancient Tibet King Gesar, is deemed as the oldest and largest castles in Tibet

Gesar Castles

The Gesar Castles are around 500 meters away from the Sichuan-Tibet Highway. According to the locals, the Gesar Castles used to consist of seven castles in the basic form of the Great Bear in the sky but only five are kept intact after going through millennium vicissitudes.

The scenic spot has been approved as Tibet's largest blue peafowl protection base with 13 blue peafowls under second-class state protection rescued there.

As few people know the ancient castles, the Gesar Castles see few visitors. Those self-drivers to Tibet by the Sichuan-Tibet Highway can drop a visit to this site.
