60th anniversary of first Everest expedition

As we know, Mt. Everest is the world’s highest peak. It has been 60 years since human being first debut at the top of the world- Everest in 1953. It was a great feat to conquer the peak for human being. Lhasa is to celebrate 60th anniversary of first Everest expedition.

Majestic Mt. Everest

In early July, 2013, Lhasa will hold activities including colloquia and photographic exhibition, commemorating the 60th anniversary of first successful Everest expedition.

The old mountaineers will be invited to talk about their mountain-climbing experiences. The photographic exhibition will present the beautiful mountains in Tibet and the Tibetans' mountain-climbing spirit.

In addition, a series of sports events and activities including the National Rock Climbing Competition in Lhasa stage and the Himalayan Mountaineering Forum will increase sports passion and charm for the summer.

The National Rock Climbing Competition, the first of its kind held in Lhasa, will be held in the early July as well.

The rock climbing competition includes individual speed and difficulty events of male and female. Phurbu Tsering, the party branch secretary of Tibet mountaineering team, said that though the rock climbing sport began late in Tibet, the athletes have made great achievements.

In 2012, Lhasa held the National Rock Climbing Invitational Tournament, in which the Tibetan contestants won the team champions of male and female. The National Rock Climbing Competition in Lhasa stage organized by General Administration of Sport of China aims to promote the development of rock climbing in Tibet.

Conquering Everest

The Himalayan Mountaineering Forum in July will invite famous mountain climbing experts and personage who have made great contributions to the mountain climbing sport.

Phurbu Tsering shows that the forum is intended to exchange experience, promote mountaineering and discuss the future development of mountain climbing industry.

The Chinese mountaineers, Wang Fuzhou, Gonpo (Tibetan nationality) and Qu Yinhua successfully climbed onto the top of the world's highest mountain- Everest from the north slope through 19 hours' arduous efforts at 4:20 (Beijing time) on May 25, 1960.

It is the first time for human being to complete the magnificent mission for climbing up to the top of Everest from the north slope, and is also the first time for Chinese people to stand on the top of the world.

Due to this feat, Mount Everest becomes a world hot tourist destination. The best place to view the grand world’s highest peak is at Tibet Everest Base Camp. Foreign travelers need Tibet entry permit and Alien’s travel permit to make a Tibet Everest Base Camp Tour.
