Entitled Shambhala, the Tibetan dance drama is going to be staged in Shanghai on March 24, 2013. Shambhala is a Tibetan transliteration, meaning "blissful world", "Utopia" or "pure land of spirit".
A spiritual journey to search for a blissful land is to be presented for the audience by the Padma Dance Troupe. If tourists travel to Tibet, they will have many chance to watch the Tibetan dance drama in Lhasa.
The Padma Dance Troupe consists mainly of ethnic Tibetan dancers. Padma Gyatso, founder and the head of the troupe is a Tibetan dancer, who has won many national awards as the leading role in dance dramas.
In the Shambhala dance drama will explore the cycle of life and death through lines of human bodies and multi-colored visual effect.
The choreography combines Tibetan aboriginal dance, folk dance and Vajra (Buddha's warrior) dance. Moreover, the soundtrack adds the live performance of the endangered art form of "eagle flute" (a musical instrument made of eagle's bones).
In the stage design of an altar of "Mandala" (a spatial expression and perception of universe in the Tibetan culture), Padma Gyatso makes use of Thangk, a traditional Tibetan art form, and the shape and style of altar in Tibetan Buddhist temples to make Shambhala an artistic example of the original Tibetan culture.
