Zhari Namco Lake located at elevation of 4613 meters among the peaks of Gangdise Mountains in Ngari, western Tibet. Zhari Namco is a national famous wet land, as well as the paradise for wild birds.

The Zhari Namco covers an area of 1023 square kilometers which makes it the third largest lake in Tibet! It is 54 kilometers long from east to west, about 20 kilometers wide from south to north. Some ten islands have been found lately at the northwest corner of Zhari Namco Lake, about 30 kilometers away from Choqen County, Nagri Prefecture of Tibet Autonomous Region during a research on local tourism development and wetland preservation. On these islands live and breed a variety of wild birds such as black-headed gulls, bar-headed geese and black-necked cranes.

An excellent prairie by the lake abounds in the rare done producing goats. The wide lake features distant black mountains as the background and green grasses around the lake bank; there are several kinds of wild animals such as Tibetan antelopes, kiangs and so on in knots along the lake, seeking food, or running on this lakeside wilderness.
As this lake is located at remote area in western Tibet, few foreign travelers pay a visit to this stunning lake when they
travel to Tibet.
