Tibet expresses to Lhasa refers to the trains to Tibet from Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Lanzhou and Xining. Each train to Tibet is divided into soft sleeper, hard sleeper and hard seat.
Soft Sleeper Car
The soft sleeper is the first class car. Soft sleeper class gives you access to a separate waiting area and priority boarding. There are twelve compartments with private doors in a carriage; four berths in each compartment, two upper and two lower, with a small table next to the window, between the two lower bunks. There is enough private room in the soft sleeper compartments while there is less than enough in hard sleeper. Soft sleeper in the train to Tibet is the most comfortable but small, measuring seven feet across by ten feet high, and you should be prepared to share your compartment with strangers. Bedding is supplied and is quite comfortable. There is no "freshening up" or cleaning of the compartments during the journey.
Hard Sleeper Car
Hard Sleeper is the second class car. There are eighteen compartments without doors in a carriage; six berths per compartment forming 2 triple bunk beds, two upper, two middle and two lower. The hard sleeper berth is not a hard-board like its name, it is still comfortable and soft but less spacious and private.
Hard Seat Car
Hard seat on Tibet train is also not hard chair like its name. It is soft and comfortable for a short journey. There are usually 4 hard-seat cars in each train from or to Tibet, which can totally contend 392 people. Different as a standard hard-seats car, which totally content 108 seats, one hard-seating car just offers 98 seats in a Tibet train. Since riding a train to Tibet is quite a long journey, it is not recommended for you to take hard seat class.
Though it is called HARD seating car, the seats are actually quite soft and nice than the ordinary trains in China. And under the seats, there are individual oxygen outlets for passengers. In fact, while running from Golmud to Lhasa, oxygen will be spreading into the cars, and most passengers won’t get strong altitude sickness during the journey on the train.
Storage of Luggage on board
All your luggage will have to be stored in your compartment, there is no separate storage area. There is storage space underneath each of the bottom bunks, and an overhead storage area above the upper bunks. Soft bags are by far the easiest to store and access. Large, hard-framed bags may not fit under the seating and will need to be lifted to the overhead area (and even then, it can be challenging to squeeze them in, if they are large and full).
