4.6 bln invested to compensate public-warfare forests in Tibet
Zhang Jiaping, an official from the Forestry Department of the Tibet Autonomous Region said that over 0.15 bln Mu public-warfare forests from 65 counties of the seven prefectures(city) have been incorporated into the compensate scope by the end of 2013, the compensation area ranks first in China. Chinese finance has to invest an annual compensation fund of over 0.76 bln yuan on public-warfare forests based on the current compensate standard of five yuan per Mu.
The national public-warfare forests compensation project not only effectively protect the forest resources in Tibet, but also improve the employment of Tibetan farmers and herdsmen. Statistic data show that the forest land area of Tibet has reached 17,836,400 hectares, 82.5 percent of which are forests, and the forest coverage rate has risen to 11.91 percent. At present, there are 84,000 farmers and herdsmen are engaging in the management and protection of public-warfare forests, whose average annual income have risen by 5,400 yuan.
During the period of the 12th Five-Year Plan, Tibet has invested 3.359 bln yuan in the protection and construction of ecological public-warfare forests, expecting to realize a forestry value of 4.189 bln yuan by the end of the 12th Five-Year Plan. It is also expected to increase the income of farmers and herdsmen by 1.418 bln yuan.
In addition, this year, Tibet is going to select 12 countries among the 30 forestry countries to set up a batch of professional management and protection team for a pilot project, which will be gradually promoted in other forestry countries since 2015 to further improve the efficient protection of Tibetan forests.
