Three new mountains added on eight-thousanders list

As we all know, there are many grand mountains in Tibet over 8000m, like Mt. Lhotse (8516m), Mt. Everest (8848m), Mt. Qowowuyag (8201m), Mt. Mayalu (8463m). Three new mountains over 8000m in China have been added on the eight-thousanders list, Chinese scientists have discovered.

Mount Annapurna I with a peak of 8,013 meters in Nepal, Mount Center with a peak of 8,011 meters along the borders between China and Kashmir and Mount Xixiabangma with a peak of 8,008 meters in Tibet Autonomous Region are the three new eight-thousanders, said Mi Desheng, a researcher from the Cold and Arid Regions Environmental and Engineering Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Sciences on Sunday.

Mi said Chinese scientists have completed mapping out all the 17 mountains with the height of more than 8,000 meters above the sea level. They are expected to publish their findings in a book "World Eight-thousander Snow Mountain Atlas" soon.

It is widely acknowledged that there are 14 eight-thousanders in the world. Among them, Mt. Everest is the highest. Chinese scientists' new discovery put the number at 17. There are 39 peaks with a height of more than 8,000 meters, according to their discovery.
