Ramoche Monastery in Lhasa is under restoration
The famouse Ramoche Monastery in Lhasa is under restoration and the project is expected to be finished before the 2013 Tibetan New Year. Ramoche Monastery is a major temple in Tibetan Buddhism built in the seventh century.
Because of natural conditions, Ramoche Monastery was confronted with danger and in urgent need of restoration. For many years, central government has invested special funds for keeping the original appearance of Ramoche Monastery.
An important part of the restoration is to renovate the frescos. During the restoration, painters who are skilled in drawing Buddha images are busy renovating religious- themed frescos.
The pigments for the painting are self-made, once painted, it will last for a long period, according to Lhakpa, one of the painters.
The renovation of the Jokhang Temple and the Ramoche Monastery, both in Lhasa, started on July 26, 2009, and is expected to be finished before the 2013 Tibetan New Year, the grandest festival of Tibet. During Tibetan New Year, thousands of tourists travel to Lhasa by train from Beijing, Chengdu and Shanghai or by flight.
