Upon arrival at Rongbuk, tourists are required to take environmentally friendly vehicles to Everest base camp, a fare of 25 yuan. However, foreigners are not allowed to taking a bus alone in Tibet. For foreigners, they usually take tourist buses or 4WDs to Everest Base Camp.  

Rongbuk Monastery

Rongbuk is the only place for accommodation near Everest base camp. The price is around RMB50 to RMB70 for each bed. Staying overnight at Rongbuk, it is easy to watch the morning and evening scenery of Mt. Everest if the weather is nice enough.

For dining at Rongbuk, there are several small restaurants nearby operated by local Tibetans. The bosses can be ordering food in English and bargaining.

The climate there are complex and changeable, even within one day, and often unpredictable, not to mention blowing hot and cold throughout the year. Broadly speaking, the annual rainy season in early June to mid-September, the strong southeast winds caused frequent heavy rainfall, diffuse clouds, snow and ice epidemic's harsh climate of the impermanence.
