Beauty of Tibet in Artists' Eyes
This is an oil painting titled “Light in the Third Pole” done by Mr. Wan Ling who won the Third Award in the "First Beauty of Tibet Art Contest Painting Exhibition" held in Beijing on Oct. 26, 2011. He said he did this painting especially for the art contest to pay his respect to Tibet, a mysterious place to him. He painted the most symbolic image in Tibet, the Potala Palace. In this painting, there is a pilgrim inching toward the Potala Palace enshrined in the dawn light, which leads her to the destination and the holy place in her heart. With her back facing the audience, we can imagine she has covered a long-way journey, possibly with her full-body prostrations.
