Qinghai-Tibet Railway has attracted over 10 million tourists since this railway went into operation on July 1, 2006. Last year, 42% of the tourists travelling to Tibet chose the Qinghai-Tibet Railway mostly because it is the highest railway in the world. More than 6 million tourists hopped on the trains on the Qinghai-Tibet Railway in 2010, which clearly demonstrates the significant role that the railway plays in boosting the tourism in Tibet. The Qinghai-Tibet Railway extends for 1,956 kilometers from Xining to Lhasa, capital of Tibet.
