It is a very famous route which starts from Kathmandu and ends in Lhasa through Friendship Highway. From Kathmandu (1300m) the road travels gently up to Kodari (1873m), then leaving Nepal to make a steep switchback ascent to Zhangmu (2300m) into China. in Tibet, The road then climbs to the top of Tong-la (5120m), continuing to Tingri (4390m),and then down to Shigatse and Lhasa(3510m). The highway is very well paved and maintained by Chinese government so it will be a pleasant journey. also, the route takes in most of Tibet's main culture cites, Sakya,Gyantse,Shigatse and Lhasa. Highlights en route are Sakya monastery, the largest monastery in Tibet, Shigatse, Tibet's second largest city, Tashilungpo Monastery, the seat of Panchen Lama, Shalu Monastery, Gyantse (Tibet's ancient trading hub) and the beautiful Turquoise Lake, Yamdruk Tso, which is Tibet's largest freshwater lake.

Our Nepalese tour guide will pick you up at Kathmandu airport. While in Kathmandu you will have time to explore Buddhist and Hindu temples and shrines reflecting ancient local traditions. There's time to explore the city's many charms on your own too. Your tour guide will take you to traditional Nepali restaurant for your first dinner in Nepal.
Meanwhile, our Nepal office will help you obtain Chinese Visa in these two days, if you are in Kathmandu in the weekend, you may have to wait for another one or two days to wait the visa issuance.
We get up early this morning to drive to Tibet, it takes about 6 hours from Kathmandu to KODARI (China / Nepal Border). Further half hour drive by truck will bring us to Zhangmu, where after completion of Immigration continually drive to Nyalam. Overnight in very simple hotel in Nyalam
From Nyalam, the road follows the BHOTE KOSHI river in the deep valley with plenty of Waterfalls. After 1.5 hrs drive bring us to NYLAM PASS (3800m) with the JUGAL HIMALA in view. A continued drive via LALUNGLA (5050m) will bring us in view of MT. LANGTANG (7245m), MT. XIXAPANGMA (8013m), & MT. DORJE LAKPA (6980m), MT. MAKALU ( 8464m), MT. EVEREST (8848m), MT. LHOTSE (8516m) & MT. CHOOYU (8201m).
Overnight in very simple hotel in Lhatse
Lhatze is 3 hrs away over a 5220m pass near the petrol station, Lhatse is a very simple twon in which there are some small restaurant and hostels. After having breakfast, we drive about 60km to Sakya Monastery, Sakya Monastery is one of the oldest and most important monastery and reputed as the "Second Dunhuang" for its magic murals Shigatse is the second biggest city in Tibet, has a lot of good hotels.
Overnight in Shigatse
Today's driving is much shorter but have a lot of places to visit. We will visit the place of the famous Tashilupo Monastery which is the seat of Panchen Lama, and one of the most important monastery in Tibet in the morning. then drive to Gyantse which is 2 hrs from Shigatse. Gyantse is small bustling town steeped in history. It lies 264 km Southwest of Lhasa on the northern bank of Nyang Chu river. Visit Kunbum Chorten and Phklkor Monastery which was built around 1400 AD It later became the main center for trade with British / India.
Ovenrnight in Gyantse
6 hrs drive takes you to Lhasa crossing the KAROLAPASS (5010m) and Kambala Pass (4794m). While driving you will see the Yamdrotso Lake (Truquoise Lake),which is one of the three greatest holy lake in Tibet. after across Kambala, Lhasa Valley is seen to the north. You will also cross the Brahmaputra Rover and finally reach Lhasa.
Overnight in hotel
In the morning, you will go to the most sppendid museum, the Potala Palace, and explore the grandest of its myriad chapals. see the jeweled burial chorten of past Dalai Lamas as well as statuary,frescoes and paintings. Later visit the Jokhang Temple, which is considered as the most sacred temple in Tibet, it draws tremendous number of pilgrims from all over Tibet each year for it houses a magnificent image of Sakyamuni at 12 years old. Then stroll around Barkhor, a pilgrimage circuit that encircles the Jokhang, it also serves as the biggest bazaar in Lhasa, where you can find some handicrafts, ambers, jewery,tibetan clothes,ect.
Overnight in Lhasa
Today, you will explore Tibet's two greatest monasteries, Drepung and Sera. which once housed about 10,000 monks. Drepung monastery is situated at the foothill of a mountain and was founded by Jamyang Choeje in 1416. In the afternoon exploring the Sera monastery which was founded in 1419 by Tsongkapa's disciple Jamchen Choeje. The whole monastery is divided into two colleges and there are Sera 'jhe' and Sera 'may' respectively. Among them 'Tsokhang chenmo' where the monks from all the colleges assemble and pray together there. you can also see monks debating there in the courtyard in the afternoon section.

After breakfast free for you until time to leave the international airport or train station for your next destination.
