The Kyichu Hotel in Lhasa is named after the Kyichu River, which in Tibetan is known as "the river of happiness". A tributary of the Yarlung Tsangpo (also known as Brahmaputra), and the cradle of the ancient Tibetan civilization, the river meanders through the fertile valley in which the fabled and formerly forbidden city of Lhasa is situated.
The Kyichu Hotel is conveniently situated between the sacred Jokhang Temple in Barkhor Square, and the famed World Heritage Potala Palace - and just a few minutes walk from both - in the ancient, traditional quarter of Lhasa. The Kyichu Hotel, like its namesake river, will also bring you happiness and an unforgettable stay while in Tibet.
As one of the oldest private hotels in Lhasa catering to travellers, the Kyichu is a cozy 52-room, family run establishment. The 52 spacious rooms in traditional Tibetan decor ranging from standard to deluxe are all provided with attached bathroom and 24 hour hot/cold running water. Besides, its indoor/outdoor Kyichu Garden Restaurant with umbrella tables on a spacious green courtyard lawn serves a wide selection of Continental, North Indian Tandoori, Nepalese and Tibetan dishes prepared by our experienced Tibetan and Nepalese chefs. Or just sit in the garden and relax nursing a drink or a pot of tea.
You will be treated as their family members, with personalised service and individual attention. Making the Kyichu your base in Tibet, you will also enjoy completely satisfying service offered by the friendly and knowledgeable English-speaking staff.

Like coming home.......
Really top-notch hotel - we had a great room - the beds were the most comfortable, warm and soft beds we'd had for two weeks - the ensuite was newly refurbished and was superbly clean (beware the hot/cold taps though - if you want hot water, turn the tap towards the blue dot, not the red one!). Our ensuite door handle came off in our hand, but was soon fixed - but these are all slight niggles in what was a great hotel. The staff were brilliant, the internet worked, the food was good and they did a very early breakfast on request. The hotel is half-way between the Potala Palace and the Barkhor, so really good for sightseeing and just round the corner from the Summit Cafe coffee shop, which caters for all the tourists, with their great range of coffees etc. Really quite sorry when it was time to leave........
