With New Year is approaching, cities in China are also immersed in the festival atmosphere. However, as for Kumbum Monastery, one of the six famous monasteries of Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism, it embraces another busy season of pilgrimage.
Built in the 14th century and located 26 km away from Xining, capital city of Qinghai Province, the Kumbum Monastery is the birthplace of Tsongkapa, the founder of the Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism.
Due to its important position in Tibetan Buddhism, numbers of pilgrims every year come to Kumbum Monastery for worships.
