Luxury St. Regis Lhasa Resort

With the development of Tibet tourism and a soaring number of visitors, Tibet accommodation has been greatly improved. Tourists can find all levels of star hotels in Lhasa and guest houses are available in other prefectures. However, what I want to remind you here is that the overall level of accommodation in Tibet is lower than that in mainland China. In this post, I’ll mainly talk about accommodation in Lhasa and camping in Tibet.

As the capital city of Tibet, Lhasa offers travelers the widest range of accommodation. You can choose to rest in the simple international youth hostel or Tibet best hotel like Intercontinental Lhasa Paradise, Luxury St. Regis Lhasa Resort, etc. While touring Nyingchi, Shigatse, Tsedang and Gyantse, you are still able to live in star hotels with various types of room. But for the remote areas, like Everest Base Camp and Mount Kailash, basic guest houses and camping tents are your only options.

Whether you need to bring tents and sleeping bags to Tibet or not totally depends on where you want to go and how you travel Tibet. If you plan to participate in our Tibet cultural tour, no need to bring those camping gears for well-equipped hotels are easy to be found en route. But for Tibet trekking tour and biking tour, you are more likely to camp outside or stay in the guesthouse. Thus, tents and sleeping bags are indispensable to keep you warm. Actually, many outdoor stores in Lhasa offer rental business. You can rent tents, sleeping bags and other camping items by days and the fee varies with quality.

When it comes to selecting sleeping bags and tents for camping in Tibet, I recommend you to take double-layer weatherproof high altitude tent and down-filled sleeping bag resistant to minus 15 degrees. The winds are usually much stronger on Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, especially in the Northern Tibet Grassland, Ngari Prefecture and Qinghai-Tibet Highway. In Tibet winter, the outdoor temperature would drop to minus 20 degrees at night. Without stove, the indoor temperature would also fall to minus 5-10 degrees. Under such kind of circumstance, an ordinary sleeping bag and tent doesn’t work any more. For more details, please refer to what to pack for Tibet tour.
