From Coastline To The Summit Of The World

Sichuan-Tibet Highway

Ranking 1st among the 10 most dangerous highways in China, the Sichuan-Tibet Highway is also the longest highway as present. On this highway it is common to spot disfigured self-help drivers with tanned skins. Their cars are covered with dust, mud and scratches of all sized. Yet they share the same target of dashing all the way to Lhasa and crossing the Himalayas to Nepal!

We drove all the way to Sichuan, then we resumed from Chengdu, passing through Ya’an, Litang, and Batang and finally reached Markam County of Tibet. After that, we passed through Baxoi, Bowo, and Nyingchi before finally reaching Lhasa. The trip covered 2,149 km of beautiful scenery– with much effort to pay on the way, of course.

We got up early every morning and we were always on the way. We climbed over the Angela Mountain and enjoyed the view of glaciers and snow-covered mountains in a lakefront town; we crossed primitive forests and tasted unique delicacies in the Tangmai natural barrieer at the end of Sichuan-Tibet Highway. The surprises and thrills of the journey excited us to forget hardships of traveling. The only thing I had in mind was to savour every second in this fairyland on earth and to forget the hustle and bustle of the secular world.
