China Tibet Visa Policy,Restrictions and Situation 2014

Both tourists and Tibet travel agencies wish Tibet to be a stable and safe travel destination. Any cancellation or intervention of the travel plan is problematic. However, considering Tibet’s special political background, tourists will always worry if their travel plans can go smoothly, especially when some “bad news” pops up.

“Is it safe to travel in Tibet?”

“Any chance we may encounter unrest?”

“Will government drive out all the foreign travelers in Tibet?”

“What if the government stops issuing the Tibet Travel Permit (Tibet visa)?”

In fact, the aforementioned concerns are redundant. Tibet has been extremely secure and steady recently. Read the following FAQs about Tibet Travel Permit, Update in begining of 2014

1. Is it possible that Chinese government may prohibit foreigners from traveling in Tibet?

No. Tibet is never marooned from the outside world. Foreign travelers with Tibet Travel Permit are always welcome. The whole Tibet is almost open to alien tourists except sensitive border areas and military regions. If your itinerary includes any “closed areas” like Mt. Everest and Samye Monastery, you need to apply for another document—Aliens’ Travel Permit. If you want to visit Ngari Prefecture, you are required to obtain the Military Area Entry Permit. Although there are times when the application of the Tibet Travel Permit becomes really troublesome, local government never makes any official statement to stop issuing it.

2. Are there any restrictions for foreigners traveling in Tibet? What are they?

Foreign tourists will undergo some restrictions. Individual tour is off-limits. All the tour services, including itinerary, ground transportation, hotel reservation, guide, etc. have to be arranged by a Tibet travel agency. Before entering Tibet, your need to apply for the Tibet Travel Permit issued jointly by the Tibet Tourism Bureau and the Tibet Foreign Affair Office. Read Tibet Travel Restrictions for detailed information.

3. What’s the situation of Tibet visa? How to get it successfully?

The application of Tibet visa is pretty stable now. Tibet Travel Org received thousands of travelers in 2013 alone. All of them, including individual travelers and tourist groups consisting of people from different countries, got the permit with no problem. As a pioneer in our field, we can guarantee a higher efficiency and success rate than other companies when applying for the Tibet Travel Permit.

Lastest Update:
Tibet Tourism Bureau starts to accept the Tibet Permit Application on Mar. 24, 2014, a week earlier than 2013.
