Planning a tour to Tibet in 2012 appears a big trouble for some travelers. The policy of Tibet permits is changed again and again this year. The latest situation of 2012 Tibet Permit is that Group Tourist Visa is required, which makes it harder or more trouble to get permission to travel to Tibet.
When entering Tibet from mainland China, a group tourist visa is required, just like traveling to Tibet from Nepal before, but the requirement is harsher. If you want to visit Tibet, you must be in a tour group with at least 5 travelers from the same country. All the members in the tour group must enter into Tibet on the same day, and also depart from Tibet on the same day. Of course, they must share the same tour itinerary in Tibet, too. This situation may last to October of 2012.
To obtain the group tourist visa, the following files are required.
1. Chinese Group Visa Invitation Letter issued by Tibet Tourism Bureau.
2. List of Visitor in the tour Group.
3. One photo of passport-size, and fill up one VISA application form when submitting the VISA application papers.
4. Tibet Entry Permit issued by Tibet Tourism Bureau.
