Are You too Old or too Young to Visit Tibet?

To many of our clients, visiting Tibet has been a dream since childhood. And you are never too old to chase your dream.

So far, the oldest client we had received was the 82-year-old Gerhard, a German traveler, who made it Everest Base Camp (5200m) and successfully finished 3-day Mt.Kailash trek, without using oxygen supply in Sept 2018. To prepare for his journey, he trained himself by walking 12 to 14 km a day and three times a week to stay fit for the highland challenge. Interestingly, in the same year, Anne Gentry, one of our American clients, who successfully visited Everest Base Camp (5200m) at the age of 84 with her 60-year-old daughter.

And in 2013, John Bailey from the USA, paid a visit to Mt.Everest Base Camp at the age of 82, he spent a holy and safe night at Rongbuk Monastery which is at a high altitude of 5200 metres.

When looking across the history of Mt.Everest Climbing Records, the oldest person reaching the peak of the world’s highest Mount Everest is a 76 years old man from Nepal. The oldest woman conquering the Mt. Everest is a 73-year-old Japanese woman. On the other hand, in June 2017, a Swiss parent visited EBC with their two boys (one is 6 and the other is 4), making it our youngest clients to Mt. All of these prove that age will never be an obstacle for reaching Tibet.

Expert’s Suggestion for Tibet Journey for the Elderly and Children

Though there are many successful examples from our clients, you still need to have a full preparation the highland travel on soaring Tibetan Plateau.

Due to the fact that Senior Citizen and Children are not as adaptable as a healthy adult, we suggest taking an easy and relaxed trip, avoid changing accommodation frequently during your family trip to Tibet.

We want you to know that Age will never be an obstacle for reaching Tibet, however you need to check your health condition especially for those who have cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease. Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease is very common among Senior Citizen. If the senior citizen carries such disease, we do not suggest them go to Tibet. Even for healthy senior citizen, it is advisable to do a physical check before going to Tibet and follow the doctor’s suggestions. For instance, if people carrying high-blood pressure or heart seizure, we do not suggest you go to Tibet for whatever age you belong to.

Better not to bring kids under 5 years old to remote areas with poor basic facilities like Mt.Everest Base Camp or Mt.Kailashi (Ali). Conclusion

Despite the harsh geographic condition, we still encourage Children and Senior citizen (elder person) with good health to travel to Tibet. After all Tibet, as the World Third-Pole, is a place worthy of a visit during your life.

Mr. Raymond from Canada had arranged such a trip for his son and daughter 2 years in advance; when we asked him why he would like to take his children alone to Tibet. He severely said: “As a father, I would like them to see the highest mountain in the world”.

We are still deeply touched by this great father. Our manager Catherine Go also did a great overland trip from Nepal to Tibet with crossing Mountain Himalaya in winter, 2013 with her 6 year’s old daughter and 9 year’s old nephew.
